I never got good at it. Well, for a retail job, anyway.
It’s too draining to do that for a whole shift, then it starts to come across as fake
This strip highlights one of the reasons I have such a hard time keeping a job. I have Schizoid PD and combined with Depression and Anxiety and Paranoia, I am incapable of feigning politeness.
Thankfully, interactions on my current job with people are short, and I don’t have to worry about them reading my expressions.

This is what I call “playing the game”. We pretend to be ok for so long that after a while it becomes second nature.
I think this is why I enjoy lyrical dissonance in my songs so much (happy music and sad lyrics). You think I’m happy? You think I’m fine? Look closer. LISTEN.
Unfortunately no one I know seems to pay attention to the lyrics normally…
I also frequently lack the energy to keep this up. I’m not really “employee material.” 🙂
Haha wow, I actually work at “Coffee Star” *cough cough* and this hits dangerously close to home, especially when it feels like you just want to walk off your shift and stand in front of a train. As depressing as it is. thank you for this. I’ve just been coming off a really shitty week, and it will be the anniversary of my dad’s passing coming up soon. Trying to fight it, but you know how that song and dance is.
