This was painfully close to happening to my little sister. However, she was already cutting before the sexual assault and was on antidepressants and seeing a therapist. She never actually told me about the assault herself; she told my little brother who told me. I’m waiting for the time when she feels comfortable enough/an opportunity comes up, seeing as I definitely don’t want to put her on the spot or drag something like that back up if she gets over it without me.

Both mental illness and high IQs run in the family on my mother’s side. Both my mother and grandmother have been on antidepressants and my great aunt was briefly committed to an institution. A family of smart, witty, clever, hilarious, but still thoroughly messed-up people.

One of my best friends went through similar. She means more to me than my actual siblings.

I too come from a family that’s highly intelligent but filled with mental disorder. Grandfather went through several beach landings and Pearl Harbor , grandmother Alzheimer’s, aunt was schizophrenic, uncle died from chronic depression and alcohism, father is bipolar. I had a severe breakdown a while back and he flat out told me that I inherited the “Family Curse.” So I understand..
