This is precisely my conundrum. I have a wife with crippling anxiety and depression, yet lacking it myself I find my own actions making things worse instead of helping. I have no frame of reference, which is where your comic seems like it might help. I think part of the reason for the stigma and associated responses have less to do with malice and more to do with unwitting ignorance. Even professional papers are written in dry, accurate nomenclature, conveying none of the empathy of an inherently emotional thing. I just want to officially thank you for this.

I had a boyfriend for 6 years who had anxiety and depression. In the beginning of our relationship I just thought that he was shy, and quiet. It was not till we moved to a new State together that I begin to realize something was up (His anxiety shot through the roof with all the new places, spaces, and situations). I started to grow up, and to me at least, it seemed he just resisted. When we broke up he went to counselling (as did I), he was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. In the months following our break up we talked a lot. Finally he opened up to me about how he was feeling, it was a bit too late, although. I did a lot of research after to try and figure things out. This comic I feel gives me a better insight than all the reading I have done, and I am also seeing the things he told me about how he felt.
    Sorry that was long.
Anyways, thank you for this. It is helping not only the people that depression effects, but also the ones who have someone in their life that is suffering because of it. Sometimes it is hard to feel like you are helping someone who is affected by it. It really helps to put things in context for me. I want to be there for my friends, family, and anyone really, who feels these things. This comic is gonna help me, help them. Thank you.
