I can relate to this. I would go out with friends and never feel like I was a part of whichever group I was with. Like I was the white noise in the background.

I’ve found it blocks it out, for me at least. Of course don’t do it, I just came out of a month-long binge where I was high constantly. As time went on, I needed more to suppress it and I genuinely think for people with depression it can become addictive.

At times I didn’t just feel I wasn’t part of the group, I felt like I didn’t exist at all. It was as though everything around me were a movie and I wasn’t playing any of the parts.

“What’s wrong? You don’t seem to be enjoying this.”
“No, this is good. I like you guys and I enjoy watching you have fun.”
“No need to be sarcastic. You can leave. We won’t invite you next time.”
“Please don’t take this away from me. It helps, when I can manage it.”
