      “You are just looking for attention” YES! That’s exactly what I’m doing. I need attention, I need someone to care. I need someone that I want to care. I want people to see that I’m feeling terrible, without having to tell them.

    I see myself in this comic strip. It really sucks and I’m dealing with it right now.

      I have a friend who has suffered from depression. She said that to me once. I wanted to slap her. Of all people…

    Other equally infuriating platitudes:

    “Snap out of it”
    “Happiness is a CHOICE”
    “Get it together”
    “Things could be so much worse”
    “Count your blessings”

    And on and on and on, ad infinitum…

    every time someone says something like this to me, i really want to explain to them that it’s not like a switch that i can turn on/off. it’s really hard to make them understand.

    I’m terrified to be happy. Whenever I’m happy I know there’s a violent crash afterwards to go with it and I’ll spend twice as long in numbness and feeling like I want to die. Forcing it only makes it worse.

    My mom would say;
    “Stop trying to get attention. You have hormones, and they’ll make you sad. knock it off. I’m not taking you to the doctor.

    Normally, a person can find something else to do to get their mind off of it, or just be positive until they feel better. But when someone is completely engulfed in misery, you can’t shake it off.

    You can’t just “get over it.”

    let me introduce you to melachony depression .. a type of depression that literally erases ALL YOUR emotions other than rage and sadness. you won’t feel truly happy, surprised, or react to anything on the outside.
    the brain simply deletes the ability to feel anything. and everything.
